Lewiston was named for Gov. Morgan Lewis.

One of the largest nonprofits in Lewiston is the Love Canal Medical Fund, established in 1983 in the settlement of a lawsuit against polluters of the Love Canal neighborhood. The fund assists people with medical problems linked to toxic-chemical exposure.
